Beach Bums!

It makes for a good weekend when this is what you see at 10:00 on Saturday morning! We took a trip to Wilmington & Wrightsville Beach for the weekend. An anniversary trip and a "just because we live close enough to drive to the beach" trip. It took us about 3 hours and 45 minutes from our house to get to the hotel. The hotel was about 10 minutes from the beach.

We got there right around low tide, so there were tons of shells! The beach was great- perfect sand, perfect waves, not too crowded, no seaweed or jellyfish (except 1 that was washed up). It was great!
Jerm made a sand angel!

This is before the inevitable sunburns. Jeremy needs some work on his sunscreen application skills. His front and my back are a little on the crispy side.

Overall, a great weekend, until Jeremy sprained the heck out of his ankle. We weren't able to go back to the beach this morning because of it, and also because the weather wasn't looking too beach-friendly. We did manage to make a stop in Chapel Hill to head to Trader Joes grocery store. We also took a quick spin through UNC's campus and Franklin Street, which looked like a smaller version of Mass Street.

A great weekend, overall! Happy Early Anniversary, Jerm! (I start peds surgery night float on Tuesday, so I'll probably be sleeping and/or at work for our actual anniversary :()

Saving the Earth and Too Small Socks

Happy Belated Birthday, Mom!

I made a few goodies for my mom's birthday last week! Had to wait until she got them before I posted the pictures, though!

Yet another Everlasting Bagstopper.
This is such a great pattern. I hate knitting them, because the cotton isn't so great on my hands, but the result is so worth it.

Yarn is Sugar & Cream Confectionary Colors in Maple Sugar, though it sort of looks gross in this picture. It's more muted in person.
Full info on Ravelry.

And the Too Small Socks. I made these cute little summer socks out of a single skein of Lorna's Laces.
My first short row heel! I'm in love! I will never do a heel flap again!
Sadly, they're too small for my mom. Tara, I told her to give them to you! Mom, you'll get a new pair that fits better eventually! Grrrr.

Full info on Ravelry, again!

Happy Dinner!

Omelet with ham, italian sausage and Munster cheese.

This omelet was too full to fold exactly in half. I thought it looked like a smiley face. So I added some cherry eyes. I'm a dork. Oh well.

Just some plain ol' cupcakes for a morale booster at work! Simple, but yummy!

Cheerwine Float

I'm generally a root beer float purist, but I had heard about the deliciousness of Cheerwine floats, as well as seeing them for sale at Cook-out, and had to give it a try.

It was surprisingly really good and a very nice alternative to root beer floats. A great summertime treat, and if the float isn't good enough for you, they actually sell Cheerwine sherbet in the local Food Lion stores.

Lillian Top

I've had several new knitting items to post, but a few are for gifts, so you'll have to wait to see those.
I do have the Lillian Top, which I finished last weekend and wore to work yesterday.

This is a great pattern- easy, looks fabulous and an overall great summer top! The lace isn't hard at all, but looks impressive. I also think it would be easy to add little cap sleeves on for a spring/fall shirt. The straps are still curling a bit, despite the ribbing, so I'm hoping that will relax in the wash. I so didn't block this before I wore it, but since it's acrylic, I figured the knitting police wouldn't come get me.

I used 3 skeins of Berocco Comfort, with just a bit leftover. I freaking love this yarn. It's great yardage for an incredible price, the drape is beautiful, the FO is soft and it's machine washable/dryable. 220 yards for $6? Yes, please!

I have 4 skeins of this left, I think I may use it for a February Lady Sweater.
And I would definitely make this pattern again. It could be a really quick knit, if you don't start it and then have to move halfway across the country and start a new job in the middle of working on it!

Chicken is Delicious

I bought a whole chicken for about $3.50 or so, and figured on cutting and grilling it, but it (finally) rained here on the cooking day, so we decided to roast it whole. Why hadn't we done it before? It's awesome.

It was really easy and only took a little over an hour and we got 4 meals out of it.

We had some roasted potatoes with it, which are always good.

The next day I put some "Sticky Fingers" BBQ sauce on the chicken and put it in a wrap with some pickles. Always good.

A very well-spent $3.50, all being told.

What's up, Doc?

Pan's first day of work. Obviously, this was taken after she got home, since it's actually light out.
